While some bands sold out with there early 2010 releases (*ahem* Arsis) Syphilic keeps its core elements: relentless, complex, obscure brutality taken to disgusting measures with humorous samples taken from various media sources. Despite sticking to original roots, progression is also very present with this record. Including but not limited to: adapting new vocal styles, more electrifying guitars, and more complex song structures in general. The only other way to experience this album would be to sodomize yourself with an electrical wire. From the start the guitars sound better and more technical. But don’t worry, it’s not overly technical. There’s quite a few pinch harmonics at fast paces in the riffs that kind of give it that technical sound. There’s a much more defined sound that is far more chaotic sounding on this album. Still, the “take no prisoners” brutal death metal guitar playing style is still relevant on this album. The riffs in general are still recognizable as a prominent Syphilic release, just on the next level. The border-line signature vocal style of Brian Forgue is of course still here. However, he has seemed to have expanded his vocals a bit. There’s a vocal style that is used in various places throughout this album that almost sounds like a traditional death metal growl, or as close to it as Syphilic will probably ever get. Regardless, the obscure and brutal vocals are here in all there glory. But once again, on the next level. And what would a Syphilic release be without the samples? Possibly just another brick in the wall. This album starts off with a sample from Bad Santa, and the sample continues at the end of the album. A lot like the Lewis Black joke at the beginning and the end of Erotishock Therapy. Behind Bars uses numerous samples from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia. Yes, the FX original series is heard various times through out Behind Bars. These specific samples are lines from the T.V. show that discuss topics that are very relevant to this record, including: musical talent, unprotected sex, gutturals, and molestation. So in the end, it works out pretty well on this album. If you love death metal and Metallica, then (possibly) you’re dream has come true. Behind Bars ends with a cover of Metallica’s Leper Messiah. But this is a cover done right. It is immediately recognizable as Leper Messiah, but much heavier. It generally sounds almost the same but in a death metal style. If you like death metal and can handle sheer chaos, then buy Behind Bars. It doesn’t disappoint at all.

 When this album was just released, I was really confused whether I should buy it, because in my memory, Cerebral Effusion's releases are always not that good and I regret my purchase so much everytime I buy their stuff. However, I decided to trust them once more, and I could't help feeling proud of my decision as soon as I received this album. It's so fantastic!

It's hard to believe that it's an album from Cerebral Effusion, as it has nothing in common with their former ones. Intense guitar riffs, heavy bass lines, insane drum blasts, and most impressive, the incredible sick guttural vocals. They are all not what Cerebral Effusion could have before. I even wondered if Comatose Music had put a wrong CD in the jewel case, it was just like an album from California or Texas. But after confirmation once again, I knew that Cerebral Effusion had released a superb masterpiece. Honestly, it has been ever the best as well as my favorite album then.

Let me say, Disgorge and Devourment have no doubt been the greatest bands since 1999 after their legendary releases Cranial Impalement and Molesting The Decapitated. Any band who produces a single song similar to these two will be regarded promising and wonderful. So can you imagine that if there is a band mixing them together? California way technical + Texas way slamming, wow, what can be more attractive than this? And here comes Cerebral Effusion with Impulsive Psychopathic Acts, which is such a flawless mergence. It's the one & only reason but persuasive enough that I recommend this to all brutal death metal fans, it's absolutely a must, and you're sure to be indulged in it immediately.

By the way, the cover of this album is so beautiful that I'm fully falling in love with Venus. All I want is to insert her and suck all her juice up in the name of Cerebral Effusion.

Though some may consider The East coast and Florida the main stays of US death metal, but for the home of technical, brutal death metal, you need to consider that in California there are such amazing death metal acts as Deeds of Flesh, Vile, Brain Drill, Decrepit Birth, Odious Mortem and Severed Savior, who after five years have finally released the follow up to Brutality is Law.

Personally, I thought Brutality Is Law was a pretty standard Unique Leader affair, but on the Willowtip released follow up, Severed Savior have appeared to make a Decrepit Birth like development and evolution in their already technical brutal sound. Like Decrepit Birth, Severed Savior also recruited an Odious Mortem member to help out, vocalsit Anthony Trapani, he along with the addition of Mike Gilbert on Guitars to the core of bassist Murray Fitzpatrick and drummer Troy Fullerton appears to have added some flare and memorability to Servile Insurrection.

Like Psycroptic’s Ob(Servant) earlier this year, and Decrepit Birth’s Diminishing Between Worlds, Servile Insurrection simply raises the bar for what can be done with technical/brutal death metal nowadays. Stupefying complexity melds with pummeling brutality and even some unexpected tangents (i.e end of opener “Questions”, “Servile Insurrection”). However, while the band has musically evolved and developed some truly jaw dropping music, and even melodies, the lyrics not penned by Trapani appear to revert back to 8th grade (”Fecalphilliac”). Musically though, the likes of “Inverted and Inserted”, “Rewards of Cruelty”, “Fuck the Humans”, “Acts of Sedition”, “Spoils of War” and the closing title track are at times, simply jaw dropping in their execution, heaviness and complexity. Even interlude “Intervallo del Tradimento” is superbly done. And whereas some of Ob(Servant)’s tracks overstayed their welcome, Severed Savior keep all their assaults in the 3-4 minute range.

The only downside to this spectacular addition to 2008s already superb death metal releases s that, partially to the punishing but familiar Zach Ohren production and the swapping of members, some of these bands sound a little similar, and frankly playing this side by side to say, Odious Mortem’s Cryptic Implosion, it was difficult to tell which was which.
